What to Expect on Your First Visit to The Shade

The Shade Team Posted by The Shade Team in Nail Care 1 min read

Your first visit to a new nail studio should feel like an exhale, not a guessing game. At The Shade, every appointment is designed to be calm, considered, and unhurried — from the moment you arrive to the final, flawless finish. Here’s exactly what to expect, so your first dry manicure or pedicure feels effortless.

Before you arrive

There’s very little you need to do. Come with your nails as they are — bare, polished, or still wearing gel from another salon — and we’ll take care of removal as part of your service. If you have a shape, length, or shade in mind, save a photo for reference; if you don’t, your specialist will guide you. Arriving a few minutes early lets you settle in and begin with a proper consultation rather than a rush.

It begins with a consultation

Every service starts with a conversation. Your specialist will talk through the shape of your nails, the finish you’re after, and the health of your natural nail, then recommend the service that fits — whether that’s our signature gel manicure, a sculpted set for added strength, or a polish-free nude finish. The plan is tailored to your hands, never a template.

The dry technique

At The Shade, there is no soaking — ever. Your nails are shaped and your cuticles refined on dry skin using a precision e-file, the technique behind the Russian manicure. It’s meticulous, comfortable, and the reason your finish lasts for weeks rather than days. Every service also closes with our signature touches: a lymphatic-drainage treatment and red-light therapy, included as standard.

After your appointment

You’ll leave with a long-wearing finish and a few simple aftercare notes to keep it pristine. Most guests settle into a rhythm of returning every two to three weeks for a fill or refresh — and because your first visit establishes your shape and preferences, every appointment after it feels even more seamless.

First visits are our favorite. Come as you are, and let us take care of the rest.
